Leon Edward Kirkman, 42, of 801 S. Perry, died Wednesday (April 23, 1969) at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lafayette. He had been ill since December and a patient there 10 days. Born in Lafayette, Oct. 26, 1926, he was the son of William and Tena Carlson Kirkman. He had resided in Attica all of his life and graduated from Attica High in 1944. He had been employed as a foundry superintendent at Harrison Steel Castings Co. for 26 years. He was a veteran of service during World War II as a Technical sergeant in the Amphibious Tank Battalion. Mr. Kirkman was a member of the United Methodist Church, Wabash Masonic Lodge 708, Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis, Murat Shrine of Indianapolis and Newtown Hatfield Knights of Pythias. Survivors include his mother; three brothers, Rex and Leslie both of Attica, and Richard of Torrance, Calif.; and a sister, Mrs. Judith Wilhite of Bedford. He was preceded in death by his father in 1941. Services will be at 2 p.m. EST Saturday at the DeSutter Funeral Home. The Rev. Harold Bachert will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. The body is at the funeral home. Friends will be received after 6 p.m. Friday. - jlr
